چکیده

The pH of the suspension medium was found to have a remarkable influence on the "slow" (min) time course of Chlorophyll a fluorescence yield in the green alga Chlorella pyrenoidosa and in the blue-green alga Anacys t i s nidulans. In Chlorella, the decay of fluorescence yield, in the Ito 5-rain region, is strongly retarded at alkaline pH ; this decay rate shows an optimum at pH 67. In Anacystis, the rise of fluorescence yield, in the same time range, is decreased optimally at pH 6-7; poisoning with 3(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-i,i-dimethylurea reverses the direction of this pH effect. These observations suggest a correlation of the H + status (or the processes associated with it such as photophosphorylation and resulting conformational changes) of the chloroplast to the yield of chlorophyll a fluorescence in vivo.

Quantitative (Chlorophyll-a) and qualitative (species composition) seasonal fluctuations of phytoplankton in Lavan coastal waters (North of the Persian Gulf)

Phytoplankton species composition as well as amount of Chlorophyll-a and their relation to physico-chemical parameters were studied. The samples were collected monthly from October 1996 until September 1997 in two stations, i.e. Lavan and Douberkeh coastal waters. In this study, 65 phytoplankton species related to 3 groups of diatoms, dinoflagellats and Blue-Green Algae (24 genus and 44 species...

Effect of SiO2 Nanoparticles on Chlorophyll, Carotenoid and Growth of Green Micro-Algae Dunaliella salina

As a rapidly-evolving global technology, nanotechnology has presumably brought drastic changes to our lives in the past two decades using engineered nanoparticles, whose penetration into industrial and non-industrial wastewater requires examination of their probable effects in aquatic ecosystems. The main objective of this work is to study the toxicological and biological effects of nanomateria...

Possible Role of Cbr, an Alga1 Early-Light-lnduced Protein, in Nonphotochemical Quenching of Chlorophyll Fluorescence’

l h e unicellular green alga Dunaliella bardawil exhibits typical responses to excessive light when starved for sulfate under normal light (60 p E m-’s-’) but not under low light (14 p E m-’ s-’). Algae were analyzed during severa1 days of sulfate starvation for nonphotochemical quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence in the absence or presence of the uncouplers SF-6847 (SF) or carbonyl cyanide p...

Relationship between action spectra for chlorophyll a fluorescence and photosynthetic O2 evolution in algae

Relative excitation spectra of chlorophyll a fluorescence are shown to be very close to relative action spectra of photosystem II O2 evolution in seven microand macro-algae of five phyla. The conditions under which this correspondence should hold, based on theoretical considerations, and the applications of this correspondence to interpretation of fluorescence excitation spectra of chlorophyll ...
